A Sondheim classic, this version of A Little Night Music was set in the early 1900s and featured an 18-piece orchestra (pictured below) with 17 RFs for actors. The musical also featured a pre-show ambiance of an abandoned theatre with leaking pipes, mouse squeaks, and critters running through walls.
Peter's sound design embraced a warm acoustical sound, with minimal orchestral amplification. The two moments Peter broke this, were during the overture and the entr'acte. Here, Peter slowly added the orchestra into a surround system to encapsulate the audience. Then slowly brought the image of the orchestra back to the proscenium to draw attention back to the stage before the scene began.
